Debate Topic

Posted by ConnerBomb Apr. 10, 2008 @ 12:08 AM EDT

Get this... For a debate in my Critical Thinking class, we were given controversial debates like Affirmative Action and Violent Video Games. We were assigned to be either for or against the topic that we were assigned.

What is my topic?

Legalization of Prostitution.

What was my assigned side?

For it.

This is going to be fun. >:P

HELLO!

would you happen to be a fellow Sun Devil!?

Apr. 10, 2008 | 2:53 AM ConnerBomb responds:

I don't go to ASU... I go to Collins College...

But yes, I support them. :)

Apr. 10, 2008 | 2:59 AM Suspended-3rd-Chord says:

well thats pretty sweet...:)

Apr. 10, 2008 | 3:02 AM ConnerBomb responds:

Yep! :P

Apr. 10, 2008 | 6:06 AM ShadowWest says:

Violent Video Games controversial? Yeah, whatever. It's been proven that kids playing on games like GTA have no effect on their mind, and can tell the difference between the real world and virtual worlds.

Apr. 10, 2008 | 3:45 PM ConnerBomb responds:

It's just a debate topic in my class. Nothing more. But I do agree with you. That's why I'm voting Obama.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 12:18 AM Zacied says:

Why is prostitution illegal anyway? NO ONE HAS SEX FOR MONEY OR ELSE! That makes no sense to me, why should the government be in charge of our bodies?
Awesome picture/clip by the way.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 12:42 AM ConnerBomb responds:

The clip's an inside joke. :P

There are actually 17 counties in Nevada that it's actually LEGAL for prostitution. The only thing is that the prostitutes are required for screening for STDs and HIV before they are hired or able to continue with their jobs.

It's not really a government thing, per se, more or less a "moral" issue. You can thank St. Augustine for that.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 12:49 AM Zacied says:

I know it is a 'moral' issue, but I think that's all it should be, a moral issue. The government should step off, why should they have power over the reasons we have sex? The screening, I agree, is definately a good idea, though, unless you screen everyone before they have sex with the prostitutes, they wouldn't really be able to stop spreading diseases. :P

Apr. 11, 2008 | 12:58 AM ConnerBomb responds:

They only screen the prostitutes. If they are found with any trace of STD or HIV, they are fired, from what I know. It's impossible to screen everyone who sleeps with them.

America was found originally by religious means. Also, if prostitution does become legal, there would be a massive revolt, since most religions frown on prostitution, not just Christianity. It would be utter chaos.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 1:15 AM Zacied says:

Couldn't that have been said about abortion? The Christians may protest, but they haven't done anything too crazy. They seem too preoccupied by abortion to care as much about prostitution. You know, though, there would be lots of assholes going 'This is a sure sign of the end times!!!'

Apr. 11, 2008 | 1:28 AM ConnerBomb responds:

Naw, the "end times" is supposed to happen on the year 2012 when a planet-like rock is supposed to come near Earth and melt the ice caps and drown us all. Look it up, there's a possibility it'll happen.

Radical Christians have killed abortionists and pro-choicers over the whole subject. They'll probably do the same thing if prostitution becomes legal nationwide.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 2:30 AM Zacied says:

I'm pro-choice, and I'm ok. (right then I get shot in the back of the head...the penis head) That's kind of weird how that might happen that way, or by global warming...
Well, look on the bright side, as long as we know how to swim, we should be able to survive for a little while longer! We can find a boat and start a civilization on top of water, like that city in Italy that I forgot the name of :P

Apr. 11, 2008 | 2:43 AM ConnerBomb responds:

You're thinking of Venice.

The whole flooding will last for six months and then return to normal levels after that. You can't forget that when the Earth floods, contaminants from the world's sewers will leak through into the water.

But, this is only a possibility in 2012. There is a chance where it won't happen.

I'm pro-choice by extent. I think the choice of abortion should happen within the first trimester and shouldn't go beyond that. That's just my personal opinion.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 3:04 AM Zacied says:

I don't really mind when the abortion is done, it's none of my businesss, Since we are talking about controversial ideas, what do you think of gay mariage? Personally, I think it should be legal, why should anyone care if gay people get married?

Apr. 11, 2008 | 3:18 AM ConnerBomb responds:

It should be legalized, I think. It's just another moral issue that everyone needs to work out of their system like every other controversial topic.

Apr. 11, 2008 | 6:32 PM Saphireking65 says:

heh, I did my seinor project on the violence in video games issue. I concluded that it isn't the game's fault, but the parents fault.

Apr. 12, 2008 | 2:38 AM ConnerBomb responds:

All games do is take away the emotion of actually shooting something. That's it.

Hilary needs to die, that's all I have to say about that.

And you're right, irresponsible parents are the reason that kids are acting the way we are today. So thank you for your insight! :)

May. 6, 2008 | 5:03 AM karkynplague says:

It should stay Illegal (anyone who knows me would be freaked the fuck out by me saying that) but legalizing it would just in-courage the spread of STD's and sexual parasites.

May. 6, 2008 | 5:45 AM ConnerBomb responds:

More or less, it's a moral issue. Yeah, there's a good chance of that happening, but if they do legalize it, I'm sure they would have regulations to help prevent something like that from happening. The site below shows some theories of legalization and was one of my sources for my debate. Very interesting.
